Sanchez, Renner win Regionals, seven
qualify for State
February 14 & 15, 2020
Frankie Sanchez won his first
regional championship at 106 pounds and Joe Renner won his
second at 182 pounds for back-to-back titles at Mountain Vista
High School to lead the team to a second place finish in Class
5A, Region Four.
Sonny Quintana (126), Alex Santillan (132), Dane Abeyta (152)
and Cayden Bird (285) all finished in third place while Sean
Arnett (113) finished fifth place but won his wrestle back match
to qualify for the State Tournament that is scheduled to begin
at 6:00 PM on Thursday, February 20.
Renner wins Top of the Rockies,
Sanchez takes 3rd
January 17 & 18, 2020
Joe Renner became
the second Grandview champion, ever, at the Centaurus Top of the
Rockies (TOR) tournament in the 182 pound bracket. Fabian
Santillan was the first Wolves champion last year in the 138
pound weight class.
Grandview attended the first TOR tournament in January 2000 and,
after sitting out for three years, has
attended every year since 2004. TOR is known as one of the
toughest tournaments in the Rocky Mountain region where it is
common to see multiple state champions in a bracket from
Colorado and surrounding states.
Frankie Sanchez finished
third at 106 pounds by tech falling Pomona's Vincent Cabral
16-1. Cabral was ranked third in Colorado 5A State. Sanchez's
only loss of the tournament was a rematch to Marcus Williams
from Rio Rancho, N.M. in a rematch from the Reno Tournament of
Champions in December.
Sanchez, Renner win Arvada West
January 11, 2020
Frankie Sanchez won the 106 pound
championship and Joe Renner is the 182 pound champion at the
Arvada West tournament that included more than 30 teams.
Alex Santillan (132) and Angelo (220) finished 5th and Andrew
(138) took 6th.
The team finished 7th.
