Grandview wrestlers left
Denver on Tuesday evening, December 18, for the two day 2007 Reno
Tournament of Champions. Approximately 80 teams from across the
country competed in this tournament.
Grandview had five wrestlers competing in the final consolation round on
Wednesday night. Michael Balagna (119), Josh Starr (145), Bryce
Lucherini (152), Penn Wade (215) and Cody Gilmore (285). Lucherini
and Gilmore advanced to day two. Lucherini wrestled a close match
in the first round on Thursday until the final seconds when he lost by
fall with 2 seconds remaining. Gilmore upset the number one seed
in championship round two and lost to Northridge Colorado's returning
state champion, Tim Saucedo, 1-5 in a match that was much closer than
the final score. He continued his winning ways in round one on
Thursday morning when he pinned his opponent in 26 seconds.
Grandview was in 35th place in the field of 80 schools at the beginning
of day two and finished the tournament in 40th place with 44 points.
