Grandview wrestled their
second conference match at Eaglecrest on Thursday, December 14, 2006 and
for the second year in a row, the outcome was decided in the final match.
The Wolves won 4 of the first 5 matches and led 15-6 going into the 135
pound match. They forfeited the 135 pound match, Tyler McGoffin
won by a major decision at 140 and the Wolves had to forfeit the 145
pound match. Daniel Ramierez's win by major decision at 152 kept
Grandview in the lead, 23-18, but Eaglecrest came on strong at 160 and
171 winning both matches by pin and putting the Raptors in the lead 30 -
23. Jacob Bomareto, 189, and Penn Wade, 215, put Grandview back in
the lead, 35 - 30, by pinning their opponents. With one match
remaining at the 275 pound weight class, Eaglecrest's Andrew Sexton
needed a pin to win the dual outright or a tech fall to tie.
Sexton put Grandview's Cody Gilmore on his back in the first period and
it looked like Eaglecrest would get the win but ... Gilmore was
successful in avoiding the pin and ... regained control of the match in
the first period.
Gilmore pinned Sexton in the second period and for the second year in a row,
the Wolves left Eaglecrest with a victory in the final match.
