BRICKS

Have you seen a BRICK t-shirt, a BRICK patch on a letter jacket or a BRICK with a wrestlers name on it hanging on the wall in the wrestling room and wondered "what's that about"?  Ric Hakes was a High School wrestler at Aurora High School (now known as Aurora Central) and then at Aurora Hinkley and has been a supporter of the sport ever since High School.  Ric was interested in doing something to recognize those wrestlers who qualify to compete at the State Tournament.  Following the 1999/2000 season, Ric made the first four BRICKS with the State Tournament qualifier's name, the year, weight class and accomplishment (State Qualifier, Regional Champion, State Medalist or State Champion) on each and attached them to the wall in the wrestling room.

Ric Hakes attached the 2006-2007 bricks
on March 5, 2007.

New with the 2006 season ... GOLD BRICKS!  Ric waited patiently for the day when he could make the first GOLD BRICK in recognition of the Grandview wrestler who won the State Tournament.  Both Jon Brascetta and Curtis McNary won a State Championship in 2006 and they are the first
GOLD BRICK winners!

Team BRICKS recognize Centennial League Championships and Regional Championships.

In addition to making the BRICKS for the wrestling room, it has become a tradition for Ric and Becky to attend the Grandview Regional wrestling tournament each season and present each qualifier with a BRICK patch to be worn on the right sleeve of their letter jacket.

Wrestler's, their  parents and other supporters, purchase t-shirts with BRICK on the front and GRANDVIEW WRESTLING, with the list of the current year qualifiers and weight class, on the back and wear them at the State Tournament at the Pepsi Center.

Ric and Becky's son, Justin, was a member of the 1999/2000 and 2000/2001 teams at Grandview and a BRICK award winner in both seasons.
